Nigeria is negotiating with China on possible new satellites for Nigeria Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) and support for its ground station improvement, The Guardian reported. Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu led a delegation to China. The Nigerian satellite communication company operates NigComSat-1R under the supervision of the ministry.

The visit coincided with the launch of Belintersat-1 satellite by the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), for which NigComSat will be providing In-orbit Testing Services (IoT), and Spectrum Management Services (SMS). The Belintersat-1 Satellite was successfully launched on 16 January.
