UK Partners Nigeria On Digital Switch Over
The United Kingdom ,UK, will partner Nigerian government on Digital Switch Over to help Nigeria move from analogue to digital broadcasting.
The acting British High Commissioner in Nigeria Simon Shercliff stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in Abuja.
Simon Schercliff noted that DSO at the moment is the main thing in which many countries around the world are going through and stressed the importance of upgrading technology in broadcasting world.
He said "it is an enabling function that would bring opportunities to many Nigerians population to see many more different channels, more variety and more television technology reliability to produce many more opportunities in the technological field".
The platforms Director of Inview Technology Limited, a UK firm, Matt Seaman disclosed that they have been commissioned by Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to develop the digital switch over programmes and to digitize Nigeria from analogue TV to digital.
According to Matt Seaman, "the digital switch over programme would start shortly in Jos and we have been working closely with NBC and Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to work out the progress first in Jos and then to other parts of the countries"
Earlier, Dr. Onu called on the Uk representatives to make use of the Nigeria's Technological Transfer Initiative to set up their manufacturing industry in Nigeria to help create more jobs.
The minister disclosed that Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is working hard to establish science and technology museum to create awareness among young people in science and technology.
He said that Nigeria would remain committed to any programme that would be beneficiary to Nigerian Citizens, especially in the acquisition of new technology.
