Peritel TV has announced the introduction of optical fibre transmission that will replace the cable system. The operator has launched a pilot test in several neighborhoods in St. Louis supplying fifty high definition channels out of the 100 channels package promised to be available by the end of July.

“We offer this innovation exclusively and for the first time here in St. Louis at an affordable price. There will be movies, sports, youth, general, interactive, discovery, entertainment and many other stations” Alioune Ndiaye, Director General of Peritel told NdarInfo in an interview.

The installation of the plant, first of its kind in Senegal, will bring a wide range of innovation services by 2017 such as the possibility of having video on demand (VOD) services via a decoder. In addition to optimal image quality, the fibre also gives the possibility of transmission over three TVs which was impossible with conventional digital decoders.

Ndiaye added: “We will cover the whole department. In the long term, at the complete installation of the device, we can reach other parts of the country”.

To accomplish its goal, Peritel TV has secured massive investments and sealed important partnerships with international TV channel providers such as Seeaiafrica.
