The Digital Lab Africa selection committee has chosen 15 finalists (3 per category) among 522 entries from more than 30 countries.
The 15 applicants have been selected to take part in the Digital Lab Africa pitch competition from 2 to 4 November at DISCOP AFRICA Johannesburg.
The finalists are start-ups, entrepreneurs, producers coming from across the continent: South Africa, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and DRC. The final at DLA@DISCOP will be the opportunity for them to showcase the best of African talent in multimedia creation (web creation/transmedia, digital music, virtual reality, video games).
The finalists will get a chance to win a 3,000 € cash prize and a Digital Lab Africa incubation ticket to support the projects’ development and make them happen thanks to the DLA partners mentorship.
The selected projects are:
–Birthday Girl/VR immersive mobile app/Peter Cardwell Gardner (Made with Monster Love, South Africa)
–Baziks Pulse/ Congolese & Afro music online platform / Baya Ciamala (Baziks Entertainment, DRC Congo)
–Kyaami Online/ Online music platform for hip-hop artists/ Nonkululeko Vundla (Kyaami Creative Marketplace, Zimbabwe/South Africa)
–Virtual Science Lab/VR mobile app for scientific education/ Samuel Agyemang (Nubian VR, Ghana)
–The Hunt & Extinction/VR immersive content about animal poaching/Tristan Shäfer (Old Soul Films, South Africa)
–Round Round/VR choregraphic experience about transgender identity/ Shariffa Ali (Kenya)

-Go Mécanique !/ Sitcom and MOOC about African women mechanics/ Gnama Baddy-Dega (Go Production, Ivory Coast)
