SA film studio gets Bafta nod

Local animation studio Triggerfish Animation Studios has scored a nomination at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Children's Award for Stickman.

Stick Man 252

The Cape Town studio's film goes against Disney's Counterfeit Cat, Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball and Aardman Animations' Shaun The Sheep: The Farmer's Llamas.

According to Triggerfish producer Mike Buckland, the nomination is a "big deal" for us as we are up against big-time animation producers like Disney and Cartoon Network.

"We worked in collaboration with UK production company Magic Light Pictures."

Directed by Jeroen Jaspaert and co-directed by Daniel Snaddon, the 26-minute film is an adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's children's book about a Stickman who lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and three stick children.

The film has won seven international awards, including the best animation at the Banff World Media Festival and the Shanghai International Film and TV Festival. Triggerfish has also created Adventures in Zambezia and Khumba.
