Nigeria needs 30 million STBs for digital switchover completion

The news has been revealed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). Thirty million set-top boxes will be required to complete the digital switch over (DSO) process in Nigeria.

During transition, billions of naira (Nigerian currency) will be involved for the set-top boxes (STBs) in the process, according to Mallam Is’haq Modibo Kawu, the Director General of the NBC. He noted that the country has already acquired 850000 STBs, involving an amount of 26million USD to start the DSO process.

Kawu pointed out that 30 local, national and regional channels were being switched to digital in Abuja and the technical part of the process were carried out over all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Still according to Kawu, the entire technical process for the DSO in West Africa is being handled by Nigerian experts and restate that Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria, is committed and determined to meet the DSO completion this year.
