Regulation & Policy

In Zimbabwe, in the midst of controversy over its license, Kwese TV has just applied for accreditation with the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.

Following a communication from the regulator that asked companies wishing to obtain licenses for the broadcast and marketing of content “that does not require the allocation or use of frequencies”, the Econet subsidiary initiated the process of acquisition of a license for streaming.

In addition to video-on-demand (VOD) services, Kwese TV has also applied for a license for Internet TV and content marketing. The Econet subsidiary should soon launch branches dedicated to VOD, IPTV and content distribution.

In the meantime, questions continue to emerge regarding the license for Kwese TV to provide its satellite channels.
