Two Malawian filmmakers up for 2018 AMVCAs

Harare --- At least two Zambian filmmakers, Joyce Mhango Chavula and Shemu Joyah, are up for Best Movie in Southern Africa category in the upcoming sixth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards scheduled for this weekend in Lagos, Nigeria.

Chavula last year attended the premiere of her film “Nyasaland” in Harare during the International Film Festival For Women. The film is in the running for the AMVCAs.

Zimbabwean-born Malawian Joyah’s film titled “The Road To Sunrise”, Namibian Philippe Talavera’s “Salute”, Zambian Abraham Kabwe’s “Jomako Black Democracy” and South Africa-based Nigerian Awal Abdul Fatai’s “Descent” are also in the same category.

The AMVCAs are some of Nigeria’s biggest and award-winning musicians including song writer and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, rapper and song writer, Falz and highlife singer, Adekunle Gold.

Music producer and song writer, Cobhams Asuquo who recently released the video to his hit single, 'One Hit’, was scheduled to perform alongside versatile rapper, Falz TheBahdGuy.

Other performers lined up include alternative singer-songwriter, Adekunle Gold, who is still fresh off his sophomore album, ‘About 30’ will also perform alongside his band, The 70th Element.

The AMVCAs which is the biggest celebration of African film and TV talent broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on DStv.
