MTV Shuga Makes Its Return To TV In Nigeria

The award-winning drama series MTV Shuga will be returning to Nigeria and is on the hunt for fresh talent to feature in the new season.

This news comes just after the announcement of upcoming campaigns in India and Cote D’Ivoire; and the recent launch of the new season of MTV Shuga Down South in South Africa.

MTV Shuga continues to lead conversations about real issues that affect young people, using realistic characters and stories that revolve around sexual health, contraception, gender-based violence, family planning and other social issues.

MTV Shuga Naija, is a multi-faceted partnership that is led by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and is supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MTV Base Africa and various NGOs.

This year the MTV Shuga Naija TV and radio campaign will be welcoming the award-winning director Tope Oshin as producer.

Oshin is known for leading the movement for female directors in the Nigerian movie sector, and has earned accolades for her excellent portfolio, featuring movies including ‘Fifty’, ‘Relentless’, ‘New Money’, ‘Wedding Party 2’, ‘New Money’, and most recently, ‘Up North’.

The campaign will kick off with open auditions, which will be held on Thursday, April 4th at the Classique Event Centre in Ikeja Lagos.

MTV Staying Alive Foundation’s Executive Director, Georgia Arnold, said that the foundation is excited to bring back the public auditions for the upcoming season of MTV Shuga Naija.

She added that she couldn’t wait to discover the amazing new talent that would be joining the MTV Shuga family.

The new season of MTV Shuga Naija is scheduled to hit Nigerian screens in September 2019.
