Showmax has recently been very busy enhancing its sports offering.

Extended highlights from major sporting events such as Wimbledon, PGA tournaments and the Tour de France as well as a range of SuperSport’s most beloved magazine and talk shows are being added on a daily basis.

In addition to that, a comprehensive collection of sports documentaries and movies documentaries is being formulated.

On the live streaming side, Showmax has now added EFC (Extreme Fighting Championship) broadcasts and also aired the ICC Cricket World Cup final between New Zealand and England which took place on Sunday, 14 July.

For MMA fans who are interested in catching previous action from the Hexagon, more than 40 episodes of past EFC Premium Fights will soon be added to Showmax together with 16 Best of EFC shows.

Commenting on the sport additions, Niclas Ekdahl, the CEO of MultiChoice’s Connected Video division, said that Showmax had said that it would be testing out a bunch of things with its sports offering, and now it is. He added that the Cricket World Cup viewing activity over the past few weeks exceeded the VOD platform’s expectations, which made it an easy call to also live stream the final.

Ekdahl said that EFC, on the other hand, is local, has a passionate following, and Showmax is keen to find out if this is the kind of action that subscribers would be interested in seeing more of.
