The Writer/Director Tomas Lutuli Brickhill has been named as the person who will host the UK premiere of the award-winning Zimbabwean film Cook Off alongside its cast and crew.

As Zimbabwe's former President Robert Mugabe's 37-year-long rule started to dismantle in late 2017, the romantic comedy Cook Off was being produced under challenging circumstances in Harare, Zimbabwe. Through power and water shortages, riots and an economic crisis, the feel-good movie emerged to represent the strength of the Zimbabwean people.

Cook Off had its Africa premiere at the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2018 and was the first film to be released in Zimbabwe after Mugabe's ouster.

Soon after that, it was showcased at the Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR), the first screening of a Zimbabwean film at Rotterdam in 22 years. Cook Off will premiere at the Mayfair Hotel in the UK on the 27th of July 2019.

The movie tells the story of Anesu, a struggling single mother from Harare's Budiriro township who skyrockets into national stardom after she qualifies for Zimbabwe's popular reality TV cooking show.

Tomas Lutuli Brickhill, the writer and director of Cook Off, said that as the economy collapsed in Zimbabwe, he and the production team wanted to film a movie with commercial appeal that would restart the Zimbabwean film industry.

The film's Producer, Joe Niagu noted that Cook Off had given birth to a brand new era in Zimbabwean filmmaking where filmmakers collaborate and show that two heads are better than one when it comes to making a hit film.
