MBC To Launch New Channel In North Africa

The Saudi-backed media group MBC has revealed that it will be launching a new free-to-air satellite TV channel for its audiences in the Maghreb on 21 September.

MBC released a statement saying that the addition of the exciting new channel is a critical part of the company’s five-year growth plan to provide premium content tailored for audiences around the world.

The media group promised that the upcoming family entertainment channel, MBC5, would enrich North Africa’s historical and cultural heritage. It would also work towards increasing local content production, and also contribute to the expansion and promotion of the industry.

MBC said that the launch of MBC5 would benefit its target countries’ economic development through various new investments in the region’s media sector.

The channel will launch on the evening of 21 September with an exclusive broadcast of the first episode of the popular talent show The Voice Season 5.

In addition, MBC5 will roll out new Maghrebi Arabic and modern Arabic productions including Al Dar Darkoum, a comedy produced by GoPro, featuring the hilarious comedy duo Driss et Mehdi. The channel will also broadcast Jwabak Dahab, a show presented by Mourad El Achabi and produced by Cinetelema that shines a spotlight on Moroccan street theatre.
