The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio and Television and StarTimes Kenya have announced a joint broadcast content development venture between Kenyan actors and their Chinese counterparts.

The development will introduce the first-ever Sino-Africa reality TV show highlighting cross-cultural exchange while also building local capacity for both Kenya’s content developers and creatives.

The show is designed specifically to identify the next outstanding movie superstar.

Funded primarily by the Chinese government and produced by StarTimes Kenya in collaboration with its local content partners, the show will feature Neomi Ngang’a, Raymond Ofula, Nick Mutuma and Peter Kamau as judges and mentors for the many aspiring and established actors with the grand prize being a chance to be in a local movie to be debuted on international platforms around the world.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the Next Superstar Show, Kenya’s Director of Culture, Ministry of Sports Culture and Heritage Dr. Kiprop Lagat said that it was very encouraging to see the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press explore these collaboration opportunities with local broadcast content developers and availing opportunities for local talent to share experiences with the people of China through film.

Xu Liquo, the Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, congratulated the shortlisted actors who will star in the TV show and said that he looks forward to growing China’s audience in Kenya.
