MultiChoice Adds New Kids Pop-Up Channel And Cuts BoxOffice Rental Fee

MultiChoice has announced that it has added the Toonami kids channel as a pop-up channel to DStv and is also expanding its DStv BoxOffice movie rental catalogue after dropping the price to $1.38 (R25) per rental during South Africa’s COVID-19 lockdown period.

The Toonami kids animation channel was added as a pop-up channel on DStv in South Africa on Sunday 29 March 2020.

It is part of the pay-TV’s efforts to expand content during the global COVID-19 pandemic which is grossly affecting South Africa as well.

Toonami, also known as “The Home of Superheroes” channel, is a high definition (HD) channel that targets children between the ages of 8 and 12 and will broadcast for 24-hours per day. The channel offers series ranging from DC Comics’ Superman, Batman, Young Justice, The Justice League, The Green Lantern, as well as the much-loved Teen Titans.

MultiChoice’s Head of Content Strategy, Aletta Alberts said that Toonami would be the go-to destination for animation and action enthusiasts of all ages.

She added that the MultiChoice Group would remain committed to delivering a premium entertainment experience to its subscribers by offering them more choice, more content and great value.

MultiChoice has also increased the number of films on offer on its BoxOffice pay-per-view movie rental platform to 40 of the latest movies and reduced the price of the movies to $1.38 for the period of South Africa’s national lockdown.
