Gomora has only been on South Africa’s screens for a month, and yet it has reportedly taken the world of entertainment by storm. From casting some of the country’s most well-known actors and also introducing the audience to new talent – the telenovela has cemented itself as a solid fan-favourite.

The show has now reached its most significant milestone by becoming the most-watched TV show on all of DStv, according to reports.

The telenovela is said to have reached 2,5 million viewers in one episode, during the month of April. It has beat the most-watched episode of The Queen which drew approximately 2,3m viewers in 2019, dropping it down to the number two spot for April.

Thabang Moleya, the director of Gomora and co-owner of Seriti Films, the show’s production company, commented on the show’s big achievement and said that it is great to see South Africans enjoying local stories. He added that the industry needs to continue telling stories that are relatable and enjoyable to the whole family.

Viewers congratulated the team on social media and even shared that they miss the show as it was on a production break.

The show has now resumed filming after airing its last episode on the 24th of April, after only 20 episodes and will be back on air soon.
