Zimbabwe Local Film 'Cook Off' Makes History With Netflix Deal

The Local film "Cook Off" will make history when it becomes the first local production from Zimbabwe to show on the global VOD service Netflix which has more than 160 million subscribers.

"Cook Off" filmmakers confirmed that they had sealed a deal with Netflix and the film would be showing on the platform soon.

The award-winning movie tells the story of a single mother who enters into a reality cooking show without any prior professional culinary experience, and the odds are initially against her as she competes with top chefs.

It was directed and written by Tomas Brickhill and then produced by Joe Njagu.

The comedy features well-known local talent such as Eddie Sandifolo, Tendainashe Chitima, Chirikure Chirikure, Jessesi Mungoshi, and the popular rapper Tendai Nguni, also known as Tehn Diamond.

 

In a recent interview with The Herald, Brickhill said that this was a great achievement and a milestone in the history of Zimbabwe.

He said that the way the movie had been premièring in different countries had been significant in striking the Netflix deal.

"Cook Off' featured at many international film festivals including Durban, Rotterdam, Nairobi, Seattle, Durban and PAFF in Los Angeles.
