- Etisalat Nigeria network is now available in Niger, Katsina, Plateau and Jigawa, the company said. This is aside the seven cities where it initially started operations in October, 2008.
- Rwandatel’s post-paid clients will access roaming services with over 500 telecom operators worldwide according to officials. This follows an agreement between Rwanda’s second biggest telecom operator by market share and Belgacom International Carrier Services (Belgacom ICS), a Belgian telecom giant.
- France Telecom (Orange) intends to cut the cost of call services in most of its African markets by implementing a new system it calls ‘Cell Broadcast’, Arnauld Blondet, the director for emerging countries, announced on Tuesday. ‘We launched Cell Broadcast in Botswana under the [local] name Sesolo. With the number of people interested in that offer, we can be optimistic about trying it soon in most of our African subsidiaries,’ Blondet told news agency PANA.
- Zain Kenya has introduced a flat international call rate to enable subscribers benefit from its upgraded network. Zain customers can now make calls to any international destination for KESh 25. The rates will apply from 9pm to 6am every day and the offer is open to both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers while billing will be per second.
