MTN Launches Small and Medium Business Training Project in Uganda

Small and Medium Enterprises with an annual turnover of between Shs250 million and Shs20 billion are set to benefit from MTN and KPMG's newly launched Business Training programme.

The one year training dubbed; 'Onwards and Upwards' will offer free training in business management, book keeping and personal management through business planning and strategy development to 100 business enterprises.

Speaking at the launch of the training in Kampala last week, MTN Chief Executive Officer, Mr Themba Khumalo, said the training seeks to support SMEs and create a powerful private sector in the country. "SMEs are the engine of this economy and their critical role to the country has to be recognised and enhanced," he said.

The programme, which is the first SME programmme of its nature in Uganda, is open to businesses that have been in operation for the at least three years and are MTN subscribers. KPMG Partner Advisory Services, Edgar Isingoma said: "The programme targets SMEs with resilience to last for at least three years."
