Nigeria’s Rivers State will provide Civil Servants With PC's

Computing

In a bid to boost the effective planning of government activities and programmes, Rivers State Government said plans have been concluded to provide personal computers for civil servants through an easy payment scheme.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Communication Technology,  Goodlife Nmekini who disclosed this during a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt weekend, said the state had taken ICT exploits beyond addressing the issue of ghost-workers.

The governor's aide said the state government had achieved wireless internet service for its workforce, trained over 1800 civil servants in ICT and has hosted a private domain for ease of administration.

On the plan of government to make computers available to civil servants in the state, Nmekini said the move would ensure that each person gets a computer under an arrangement that will allow payment over a period of time, which would be stress free.

According to him, "What we will do is we will find vendors, we as a department will come up with specifications and so far I haven't really concluded, but what we will do is have a low, medium and high earn systems and of course, all these will have different prices.
