- In Uganda, Warid Telecom has unveiled six new Customer Care Centres around the country, as the company focuses on boosting its presence and competitiveness in the local market.
- Telecel Zimbabwe at the weekend celebrated attainment of more than one million subscribers. Telecel, which less than a year ago was considered the smallest of the three mobile networks in Zimbabwe after Econet and NetOne, has become the country's fastest growing network. It is now the second largest in terms of subscribers.
- Chinese vendor Huawei has reportedly completed the second phase of the deployment of HSPA+ technology across Egyptian cellco Etisalat Misr’s network. Huawei has said that the latest stage of the development project has seen it increase theoretical speeds across the whole of Etisalat’s network to up to 42Mbps, up from the previous 21Mbps limit.
- The MTN Group has expanded its One World roaming services to its east and southern Africa operations in the wake of its launch in its west and central African operations. The four countries that are joining Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon ,where the seamless roaming service was launched in November 2008, are Uganda, Zambia, Botswana and Swaziland.
