The Encipher Tablet, The Nigerian Eletronic Tablet Is Revolutionary In Just Existing and price starts at N55,000 ($399)

Encipher Limited has announced that their ‘highly controversial‘ Andriod-powered tablet will be available only in Nigeria (for now) and starting at N55,000 ($399).

The news of the Encipher Tablet was broken last week and has already gotten the attention of huge tech and mobile review blogs around the world such as VentureBeat and GigaOM’s JKOnTheRun blog.

Specs for the Encipher have also appeared on the web, and it looks like a real product:

- CPU:VIS8505 400mhz

- 16GB HDD

- 512RAM

- LCD: 7″, 800×400 resolution

- Camera

- Wifi:802.11 b/g

- Android 1.6

- 35mm jack, HDMI output, support for TV-OUT, USB2.0, SD/MMC slot

- Accessories: User manual, HDMI cable.

The Encipher looks thin and light, with a very iPad-like case construction. The company behind the tablet intends to use it as a vehicle to sell its cloud services — hosted Exchange, VoIP, cloud storage and cloud backup (among others).

According to Saheed Adepoju, Encipher’s Innovation Manager,

We envisage that lots of application development will take to the cloud. We are offering Cloud Storage options complete with set of APIs to access these them.

- 10GB (1yr): N60,000.
