Zambia: ZICTA Rescinds Ban on ISPs


The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has temporarily withdrawn its earlier statement that five Internet Service Providers (ISPs) should cease operations effective tomorrow.

ZICTA director for public relations and consumer affairs Lotty Kakubo said in a statement yesterday that the authority had however given the five ISPs a five-day ultimatum in which to remedy the situation. "This is meant to pave way for further discussion with the affected Internet Service Providers regarding the matter," he said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.

ZICTA had on Wednesday directed five ISPs in the country to cease their operations effective October 8 this year because their licenses has expired and had not been renewed.

The affected ISPs include Zamnet Communications Systems Limited, Realtime Technology Alliance Limited trading as Realtime Zambia, Coppernet Solutions Limited, Microlink Technologies and Pronet Zambia Limited.
