Nigeria: NCC Orders Telecom Operators to Suspend Promotions

The Nigerian Communications Commission has ordered the suspension of all promotions by telecommunication operators except where adequate capacity is provided on the network to carry the volume of traffic generated by such activity.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the weekend when the NCC reportedly summoned all the operators to Abuja to explain the reasons for the state of affairs in their networks. The NCC also directed service providers to take immediate measures to improve their quality of services.

During the meeting said to have been directed by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah, the Commission's officials expressed concern over the inability of the operators to meet with some of the key performance indicators for ameliorating the challenge of quality of service.

NCC's Director, Technical Standards and Network Integrity, Dr. Balarabe Sani, said at the meeting that the monthly data capture and analysis had shown that the network congestion had continued to increase.
