Airtel Ghana lays underground fibre optic cables


Airtel Ghana is currently digging the ground around the country to lay underground cables to connect fibre optics to its network, has seen.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Airtel Ghana, Mrinal Roy confirmed to on the phone that Airtel has been expanding its network capacity.

Tuesday August 9, 2011 saw dug trenches in some parts of Accra in which Airtel has laid PVC pipes through which fibre optic cables will be passed.

Airtel has not landed its own undersea cables. Roy told that the telecoms provider is looking to connect to other fibre optic points that might offer the best solutions. “It is a flexible thing,” he said, ” we are looking for the best option available.”

He added that Airtel has also doubled the size of its network in recent times and is looking for the best available options to make its services affordable to Ghanaians.
