- Vodafone Ghana has extended the welcome period for its mobile internet customers from 60 to 90 days, during which they will get double their internet allowance. The allowance on the 'browser', 'streamer' and 'downloader' bundles has also been increased for existing customers. The company has lowered the cost of its modems to GHC 49, too. This is part of its year-long 'limitless possibilities' campaign aimed at educating Ghanaians about the positive effect that the internet can have on their lives.
- MTN Nigeria has announced a coverage expansion of its WiMAX network, with local news source Business Day reporting that the operator has extended the network to the cities of Abuja and Port Harcourt.
- Kenyan telecommunications company Orange, which is part of Telkom Kenya, has launched a 42 mbps network in Nairobi. Telkom Kenya chief executive officer Mickael Ghossein said “The new Orange Internet Everywhere 42 mbps modem will automatically connect to 21 mbps speeds while in a 3G coverage area or switch to EDGE if a user totally moves to a non-3G area. The new plug-and-play device is also compatible with varied Operating Systems,” he said.
