Kenyan presidential candidate uses Twitter to raise funds

A leading presidential candidate in Kenya is using Twitter and mobile transfer service M-Pesa to raise funds for her campaign ahead of the March 4 general elections.

Martha Karua, the leading female candidate in the presidential race, has launched a Twitter campaign, #SimamaNaMamaNaMia ( translated means 'support mum with Ksh. 100'), the first of a kind, to seek finances from her supporters.

The campaign which has gained massive popularity on the social media site encourages Karua's supporters to send her funds from as low as Ksh. 100 ($1.2) to finance her presidential campaigns.
