- Angolan operator Net One has launched its YahClick service, Angop reported. Executive director Jaime Ferreira said the intention is to deliver an internet service through satellite at a low price, providing an easy access to all Angolans. Two special modems are available, the HN9260 for home use and the HN9460 for business use.
- On Tuesday 9 October, 1962, Uganda got its independence from Britain. As the country celebrated its Golden Jubilee recently, Ugandans online have been using Twitter and Facebook to share their opinions about Uganda@50.
- Togo’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications of Togo Cina Lawson has said that the government is considering plans to call for expressions of interest from companies looking to secure licences to become a ‘full-blown’ mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the country. If realised, the newcomers would go into direct competition with current incumbents Togo Cellulaire (Togocel) and Atlantique Telecom (Moov Togo), and fixed line PTO Togo Telecom, which also offers service for its mobile product using wireless in the local loop (WiLL) technology.
