Telecoms – In Brief

- Angolan cellco Unitel has issued a contract to Astellia to provide service troubleshooting and performance monitoring systems, with the aim of gaining a complete picture of its 2G, 3G and 4G mobile traffic from radio access network (RAN) to core network. The resultant data should help technicians to quickly identify and diagnose network issues and better target network optimisation activities.

- The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its Mozambican counterpart Instituto Nacional das Communicacoes de Mocambique (INCM) on cross border frequency coordination. Among other things, the MoU aims to manage interference of radio communication systems between the two countries, promote roaming between telecoms operators, and coordinate broadcasting signal distribution activities. MACRA said the signing of the agreement was a response to complaints from members of the public facing cross border interference with neighbouring countries including Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.
