Rwanda signs 4G LTE deal with KT Corp

Rwanda has signed a deal with South Korea’s telco KT Corp to provide high speed 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) service to most of the African state’s population within three years, Reuters reported.

According to the article, the deal involves KT Corp’s provision of USD140 million under a joint venture company, commissioned with the establishment of a 4G broadband network to 95% of the population, while the Rwandan government’s 25 year-term equity investment in the joint venture would comprise of providing access to its national fibre-optic networks, spectrum and wholesale-only licence operators.

Rwanda’s Minister of Youth and ICT Jean Philbert Nsengimana said in a statement that ‘the agreement with KT Corp marks a major milestone in Rwanda’s drive to become a modern, knowledge-based economy.’
