Mauritius Telecom’s revenues pass the MUR8 billion mark
Mauritius incumbent telco Mauritius Telecom has announced the company’s financial results for the year ending 31 December 2012, with 3% increase in operating revenues to MUR8 billion (USD259.32 million) compared to the MUR7.77 billion reported in 2011, while revenue from the mobile segment was MUR3.6 billion, representing 3.28% growth over 2011.
Mauritius Telecom stated a marginal growth in pre-tax profit of 0.7% to reach MUR2.6 billion in the calendar year 2012, although profit after tax decreased by 4.1% year-on-year to MUR1.8 billion from MUR1.9 in 2011. The group’s capital expenditure remained at MUR1.5 billion for a second year.
By the end of 2012, Mauritius Telecom reported 752,000 mobile, 138,500 broadband (including nearly 69,000 My.T subscribers) and 345,000 fixed line customers. Its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network had 550 subscriptions, and the company estimates that a further 8,000 customers will be signed up by the end of 2013.
