Ambitel pays USD 0.5 mln to Sierra Leone's NATCOM

Ambitel Sierra Leone, an affiliate of Libya's LapGreen Networks, says it has paid USD 0.5 million to the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) and that all other relevant balance payments will be made as soon as possible. CEO John Weir said the firm has invested nearly USD 18 million in Sierra Leone with the hope to invest USD 30 million in the next three years, The Concord Times reported. Weir said Ambitel will launch its services later this year; is currently interviewing and hiring local staff, with senior local managers already being identified.

He said that the company intends to launch a quality service proposition and also provide possible mobile voice. Plans are underway to launch 55 sites in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Makeni and Njala. The firm's CCO Mark Knutton said the company is hoping to create jobs for many youths across the country and that they are here to stay for the benefit of everyone.
