Zimbabwe: Regulator bans international texts to Zimbabwe phones during election

Zimbabwe's telecoms regulator is reported to have issued a ban on international text messages being accepted by the country's mobile networks during the national elections for a new President.

A number of local media reports have cited the ban, which has been confirmed by two of the mobile networks. The ban only applies to text messages being sent to Zimbabwean phones from overseas locations -- apparently internal messages are unaffected.

In related news, the interconnection break-down between Econet and Telecel is still ongoing with no signs of a compromise being reached.
