Kenya: Airtel Money Enlists More Banks in Bid to Grow Mobile Transactions
Airtel Money is reaching our to more financial institutions and businesses to grow its market share in mobile transactions.
The operator last week partnered with Equatorial Commercial Bank to enable the bank's customers access mobile banking services on their mobile phones.
Earlier this month, it opened up a similar service with Equity Bank, the largest bank in customer numbers.
Other partnerships include with credit card company Afb and with oil marketer Total.
"There will be many more similar partnerships in the next 90 days," Airtel Kenya Managing Director Shivan Bhargava said.
He said 80 per cent of Airtel's 5.02 million subscribers are registered on the mobile money platform. Of these, about 180,000 are active users doing around 100,000 transactions a day.
