Telecoms - In Brief


- Tigo Senegal has successfully completed the identification of its entire mobile subscriber base, in compliance with the regulator, Agence de Regulation des Telecoms et Postes’ (ARTP’s), revised 18 August 2013 deadline.

- Wireless operator MTN Guinea (Areeba) has announced that it is now authorised to provide 3G services in the country after signing a Convention de Concession de Licences with telecoms regulator L’Autorite de Regulation des Postes et Telecommunications (ARPT) on 16 August 2013. According to the company’s press release, the licence will provide MTN Guinea with an ‘opportunity to have a greater number of sites covered by March 2014’.

- Zambia's Zamtel has agreed to demonstrate an LTE network at a UN conference being held in Livingstone. The equipment is being provided by Ericsson.

- Gambia's Africell says that it crossed the one million mark with over 1.1 million active subscribers.
