- South African fixed line operator Telkom has welcomed the new Call Termination Rates (CTRs) issued by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) on 29 January. Following notification from ICASA, the incumbent mobile operators are expected to reduce their MTR from ZAR 0.40 to ZAR 0.20 as of 01 March. The MTRs for small mobile operators like Cell C and Telkom Mobile will remain at ZAR 0.44. The fixed termination rate for Telkom remains at ZAR 0.12 for local interconnections for the coming year, while the rate for national interconnections will fall from ZAR 0.19 to ZAR 0.16. By March 2017, the call termination rates for the major operators will be unified at ZAR 0.10, with continued, albeit falling, asymmetry for small mobile and fixed operators.
