Alcatel-Lucent and Libya’s LITC are to deploy  a new 1,000 km undersea cable system linking Tripoli to Benghazi.

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a turnkey contract with the Libyan International Telecommunication Company (LITC) to build a new 1,000 km undersea cable system linking the country’s capital, Tripoli, to Benghazi.

This new system, which will provide a capacity in excess of 10 Terabit/s, will contribute to the reconstruction of the Libyan telecom infrastructure, delivering the broadband connectivity needed in support of ongoing efforts to revive the Libyan economy and providing further reliability to domestic and international communications.
