DStv in partnership with MWEB WiFi keep UB40 fans ‘connected’
“Ensuring ‘connected’ consumers have instant; uninterrupted access to their online world is essential for enhancing social experiences.” This is according to MWEB WiFi Head of Marketing, Siphiwe Thabethe, who aims to touch as many people as possible with MWEB’s on-the-go WiFi solution over the coming months.
As the headline sponsor of the UB40 event, DStv invited MWEB WiFi to partner with them in delivering on the brand’s promise of “enriching people’s lives by helping them discover the thrill of great entertainment.”
MWEB WiFi acted on this by focusing on boosting the UB40 experience for guests during the band’s recent tour to South Africa.
Guests in the DStv VIP areas at the Emmarentia Dam, Johannesburg event were treated to the full MWEB WiFi experience, which offered superior, fast, uncapped WiFi. This ensured concert goers could bring together their real-world and digital world – allowing them to shoot, snap and share their live concert experience online, a departure from the standard concert experience, which is fraught with slow, congested connections and limited access to data, voice and messaging services.
All participants had to do was complete a quick and easy once-off registration. Registered users, who have their WiFi notification switched on, will always be notified when they are in a MWEB WiFi Zone and will be automatically connected to super fast, uncapped WiFi
The MWEB WiFi team also launched a UB40 competition, which allowed two Facebook fans to ‘jump the queue’ and enjoy an un-interrupted UB40 live experience. The two lucky winners enjoyed personal VIP treatment while being chauffeured to the event and whisked inside without having to face any queues or delays. They were hosted in the DStv VIP area for the duration of the concert.
Once registered with MWEB WiFi, guests at the event had access to MWEB WiFi’s Lyric Companion – the perfect way to enhance your concert experience. The Lyric Companion (www.mwebwifi.co.za/sing) is a responsive webpage that displays the band’s lyrics in order of the set list so that fans can feel connected and sing-along with the band. There was also a photobooth so concert goers could have a reminder of the event and upload fun images to their social media platforms.
In order to allow fans to further engage with the band MWEB also provided a ‘fan book’ where concert goers could share their favorite UB40 memory or send a ‘shout out’ to their band. The fan book was then presented to the band as a memento from their SA tour.
