African Telecom Union drafts strategic plan for 2014-2018
The African Telecommunications Union has presented a draft strategic plan for 2014-2018, on which members states have until 6 May to express their opinions.
Secretary general Adoulkarim Soumaila told Agence Ecofin at the ATU conference in Yaounde, Cameroon, that the organisation wants to promote not only fibre and other infrastructure development, but also innovation and locally created apps that can improved economic productivity in agriculture, livestock and other fields.
The strategy is based on a consultant's report that queried around 10 countries in Africa's four main regions. The conference also approved the ATU's around USD 1.5 million budget, Soumaila said.
