Gambia launches first-ever internet exchange point

The Ministry of Information Communication & Infrastructure (MOICI) and Telecom Operators, under The African Union Commission (AUC) Internet Exchange Services (AXIS) Support Project on Saturday July 12th 2014, launched the country’s first- ever internet exchange point at a launching ceremony held at the GAMTEL Serekunda Internet Exchange Point (SIXP premises along Kairaba Avenue in the Kanifing Municipality.

The SIXP is an Internet exchange point that would keep internet traffic local, and thereby reduce the pressure on costly international brand-width.
