O3b, RCS deliver high speed internet to South Sudan
O3b Networks has announced that RCS-Communication, an internet service provider (ISP) in South Sudan, has entered commercial service on its O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite constellation. O3b’s low latency, high throughput satellite network is enabling RCS to launch new services, including WiMAX, in and around the capital Juba, which is home to over 300,000 people.
‘As one of O3b’s pioneering clients we are excited to report the practical reality after implementation matches the theory of what we hoped to achieve when we decided to contract capacity with O3b for our WiMAX network in Juba,’ commented Flippie Odendal, RCS-Communication’s managing director, adding: ‘With this investment, RCS further differentiated our service offering and allowed scope to increase bandwidth capacity four fold in the future without the need for major changes at our local gateway.
