Tigo, Azuri partner on rural energy, money services
Tanzania solar systems provider Azuri Technologies, mobile operator Tigo Tanzania and mobile retail operator Lotus Africa announced a partnership to bring integrated pay-as-you-go energy and mobile payment services to rural households in Tanzania.
Tigo said providing direct access to both energy and payment services will help differentiate Tigo Pesa from the rest of the market. With daily access to energy, our customers can benefit from 24/7 connectivity, and with it, the advantage of a mobile payment service whenever they need it, Tigo said.
The joint venture aims to bring solar power, mobile phone charging and mobile money services to over 100,000 rural off-grid consumers in the next two years, building on Tigo's extensive distribution networks and mobile money payment system, East Africa Business Week reported.
