NiRA records increases in domain name registrations
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) reported an increase in the number of domain name registrations. According to the report, 1,805 domain names were registered and 1,429 domain names were renewed in March.
According to NiRA President Mary Uduma, the renewal of domain names at the second level contributed to the increase in renewals, the Daily Independents reported. She added that Nigeria could save billions of naira lost to foreign domain names, if more Nigerians patronised the indigenous domain name. The government had given states and local governments as well as ministries, departments and agencies in Nigeria until August 2014 to switch to .ng domain names.
