South African mobile operator Cell C has concluded the renegotiation of its roaming agreement with Vodacom, which includes access to 3G services. Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos said this will benefit even customers in outlying areas where the operator has limited coverage. The agreement with Vodacom will not affect Cell C's planned investment in LTE, which is currently being deployed across the country.
He said Cell C's three-year, ZAR 8 billion agreements with Huawei and ZTE will continue apace, as they prepare to launch a commercial 4G service later in the year. The new roaming agreement is effective from 01 June, and switch-on is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
