The government's one-stop portal that aims to provide online services to citizens and businesses has gone live. The online platform branded "Irembo" is a public-private partnership deal between the government and Rwanda Online Platform Ltd to offer e-government solutions to fast-track service delivery and increase efficiency in public institutions. Clement Uwajeneza, chief executive of Rwanda Online Platform Ltd, a technology company that is implementing the project said "Irembo," which means gateway or door, went live last week and five services are now available on

"We have put the platform online so that active Internet users and those who are used to technology services give us feedback so that we can improve it and make it more user friendly," Mr Uwajeneza said in interview with Rwanda Today. "The technology product is not put entirely on the market without passing through steps and getting feedback from users to make it better so that slowly it becomes like a daily life service," he said.
Internet penetration in the country is still low which could deny many citizens access to the services being offered.
