Bitcoin Academy launched in Cape Town, South Africa
Africa’s first Bitcoin Academy has been launched at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town, South Africa.
The academy will be offering basic, intermediary and advanced training on the use of Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology to interested financial institutions, corporates, developers, entrepreneurs, startups, schools, government and individuals.
The training, which could either be onsite, classroom-based or online, takes place over a full day, with attendees receiving a Bitcoin Academy Certificate of Attendance.
The courses to be taken by participants include Bitcoin 101, Blockchain 101 and Blockchain-based Application Course with prices going for R2500.00, R2999.00 and R3999.00 per person respectively. Training sessions will be available from September 2015.
Ian Merrington, CEO of Bandwidth Barn & Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CiTi) said, “Our role is to empower the technology and innovation ecosystem, so hosting the Bitcoin Academy provides support for the formal financial industries as well as entrepreneurs and innovators working with crypto currency”.
The Bitcoin Academy was started by Sonya Kuhnel, who was also behind the inaugural Bitcoin Africa Conference and assisted with the launch of BitHub at the Bandwidth Barn in May.
