MTN Ghana to Allow Subscribers Receive from Abroad via Mobile Money

Ghana’s leading mobile operator, MTN is to partner Western Union to allow MTN-Mobile Money subscribers to receive money from abroad on their mobile wallet next year.

Mr. Stephen Asare, MTN-Mobile Money implementation manager in charge of Northern Ghana who disclosed this at the maiden MTN Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Business fair in Brong-Ahafo said with the international Mobile Money transfer, businesses would triumph in a more effective, quicker and safer way, which would in turn improve the country’s economy.

He added that MTN now has 15million subscribers out of which over 4million are active Mobile Money users. Mr. Asare indicated that more job opportunities would be created, saying “currently there are 23,000 merchants across the country which indicates that 23,000 jobs have been created and access to money transfer has been improved as it is now available in places where there are no banks.”

He called on SMEs to take advantage of the technology to grow their businesses since it is safer, cheaper and secured to transact businesses at any remote area of the country where banks are not accessible.

The SMEs business fair was under the theme: “Enabling and inspiring growth in the SME sector,” with the objective of introducing SMEs to MTN’s innovative technologies which could be used to grow businesses.

On his part, General Manager -Northern Sector for MTN, James Bukari Basintale assured that MTN will continue to support SMEs in the Brong Ahafo region and the rest of the country to develop, hinting that through research, MTN is bringing out cutting edge technological solutions to promote the growth of SMEs in the country.
