DRC telcos reject proposed tax increase
Four telcos operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), namely Airtel DRC, Orange DRC, Tigo DRC and Vodacom Congo, have sent a letter to the country’s Minister of Finance opposing a possible tax increase, according to reports from Agence Ecofin. Articles 31 and 38 of the Finance Bill for 2016 reportedly propose a rise in annual revenue from 2% to 3%, which the telcos claim would force them to increase prices charged to consumers. The letter was reportedly sent on 29 October, while an official public response hasn’t yet been forthcoming.
