Vodacom South Africa says 200,000 accounts charged twice
Vodacom South Africa said that about 200,000 accounts were affected by a "technical glitch" that caused some customers to be double-billed. Tshepo Ramodibe, executive head for corporate affairs, said the majority of refunds were processed on 04 January as promised. The balance of refunds would reflect during the course of the day, ITWeb reported.
On 01 January, Vodacom sent an SMS to customers who had been affected. Ramodibe said the incident was caused by a technical problem with certain files that resulted in some accounts being presented twice for funds collection.
