MTN, Sony Music sign content distribution deal
MTN, a leading telecommunication service provider in Africa, has announced the signing of a content distribution deal with Sony Music, an American music corporation.
The deal will give MTN’s customers unprecedented access to Sony’s expansive catalogue of local and international performers.
“We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Sony as it gives expression to our quest to promote and develop music as an art form,” said Larry Annetts, MTN South Africa sales and marketing executive.
“We are very pleased to be working with MTN on creating another digital outlet for our artists’ recordings that meets the expectations of today’s music fans. We look forward to a great partnership in music with MTN,” Sony Music Entertainment Africa MD, Sean Watson added.
Sony Music will administer all royalties payable to their artists directly as well as those due to the relevant collecting societies.
The deal might also be extended to include full tracks and albums.
The deal was signed last Thursday and is a culmination of nine months of talks between MTN and Sony Music.
