NiRA To Reduce .ng Fees To Attract Nigerian Website Domains
The Nigeria internet Registration Association (NiRA) said it would further slash fees for the purchase of the .ng internet domain names to encourage the uptake and population of Nigeria's e-commerce space. The NiRA president, Reverend Sunday Folayan said that the NiRA currently boasts 60,000 domain names registered in the country compared to about the 2,000 domains it inherited at its formation, Today.ng reported.
He said that there are 59,847 domains in the .ng registry, a quarter of which are reserved. The reserved domains include geonames, premium names, trademarked names, single letters and two letters. Not all the reserved names are available for registration. He said NiRA has 56 accredited registrars who do the registration while the NiRA runs the registry.
